THE COURIER: number one in cinemas in Spain

THE COURIER is the undisputed number 1 in its opening weekend in cinemas in Spain, with a box office takings of €530,171.

The film directed by Daniel Calparsoro and starring Arón Piper has attracted 73,301 spectators, achieving a market share of 11%.

Produced by Vaca Films and distributed by Universal Pictures International Spain, THE COURIER was released in 321 theaters, achieving an average box office gross of €1,602 per theater, the highest in the market.

This thriller with comedy elements inspired by real events stars Arón Piper (Fatum, El silencio, El desorden que dejas, Élite), María Pedraza (Awareness, Galgos, Las niñas de cristal, Elite, La casa de papel) and Luis Tosar (Fatum, La ley del mar, Hasta el cielo, Cell 211) who are accompanied by Laura Sépul (Baraki, Into the night, Enemigo público), Nourdin Batan (Todos los nombres de Dios, Hit, La Unidad), José Manuel Poga (El cuerpo en llamas, La Fortaleza, Tú también lo harías, La casa de papel) and Luis Zahera (As bestas, Entrevías, La Unidad, Celda 211), among others.

The film is scripted by Patxi Amezcua (Infiesto) and Alejo Flah (Taxi a Gibraltar). The soundtrack composed by Carlos Jean features the central theme “Take your money”, performed by Abhir Hathi.

According to its director Daniel Calparsoro, THE COURIER narrates “the ‘golden age’ after the arrival of the euro in Spain, following the adventures of a young hustler, and his rise from the street to the top of the corruption that surrounded the years of the real estate bubble”.

SYNOPSIS  

Year 2002. Spain enters the euro. It is a time of opportunities, for the smart ones. Like Iván, a kid from Vallecas who has outgrown his neighborhood.

From his position as a valet at a luxurious golf club in the capital, he will soon take his first big step: becoming a Belgian courier for an international organization dedicated to money laundering. Ivan will start transporting suitcases to Brussels and Geneva.

But Iván can’t keep his eyes off the top. The real black money is flowing on the Costa del Sol. Construction businessmen, corrupt politicians, bankers, sportsmen, the Chinese mafia… Ivan wants his share of the cake.

This is the story of a young man who had nothing and dared to have it all. Until it all exploded.

A high voltage story about excess and delusions of grandeur, the reflection of an era that will never return. A story in which the life of Ivan, our protagonist, is intertwined with the most emblematic moments of recent history.
